A quick update!
I had a Synvisc injection this morning......seriously.....I was scared to death. I know, I know, after all I've been through how could I be so fearful of a little injection. My husband went with me this morning and was surprised that I seemed so much more scared of the injection versus surgery. Well, most of you know that you're knocked out for surgery.....had I been knocked out for the injection I wouldn't have been scared at all! lol!
I suppose if my knee didn't hurt ALL the time it wouldnt have been too bad. Needless to say, I had trouble sleeping last night and was pretty much a whimpering mess when I got to the dr this morning. However......I DID survive!! :)
It was interesting, one of those things where my imagination blew it out of proportion......and then not so much. It hurt less than I expected and worse than I expected....funny to even say outloud!
Anyhow, I survived and will wait to see what kind of results Synvisc will deliver. Hopefully it will make a difference......according to the dr, should see the best results starting about Christmas time (6 weeks).
Keep your fingers crossed! :)
I will be having this surgery on Dec. if you could let me know of any questions you think I shod ask my doctor or any supplies I should get to make my life easier. Also my doctor hasn't mentioned getting a CPM. How long until you could drive? My name is Lisa and I am 42 and the mother of 2. If you want you can email me at jlcowan819@sbcglobal.net It might be nice to have someone I can communicate with who has been through it. I have been dealing with this since Jan. 2010.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa
DeleteI am so sorry I have not responded sooner, in fact I can't believe I havent been on since November. I hope your surgery went well and was successful. I'll answer your questions even though you've probably already dealt with these issues! :)
- I think a CPM is totally necessary, in fact I bet you had one too!
- It took me quite a while to drive, I was thinking it was almost 4 months. To be honest, I still have trouble getting into my car. I drive a jeep and my bad knee is my left knee. I can't be on that leg by itself and then kind of turn to get in the car, does this make sense?
Again, sorry it took so long for me to get back to you.....I hope your surgery went well and you are healing quickly!!
Im so scared i need this surgery, i had 2 acl surgeries, i dont know how long can i wait my baby is still Breastfeeding but turning 1, is still bot walking by herself and weights 19 lbs, my loss of cartilage is extensive full thickness in my femur weightbearing left knee. But i think this is the best procedure since the previous surgery you had broke and breaks on many patients. I dont have family here except for my husband who is in the Navy very busy supervisor, to help me with the baby picking here and there im petite and in pain. How long til i can pick up my daughter fron the crib to the floor? To the changing table, to the car seat, from and to the car, the stroller etc? After surgery and recovery?
ReplyDeleteHi, so sorry it has taken so long to get back to you!!
DeleteI'll answer you questions the best I can. If you've already had the surgery, youre probably all too familiar with the type of help you'll need.
- The first week after the surgery I needed help! I could not lift my leg out of bed and the pain was intense. My sister came out and stayed with me the first week (it was a blur) and then my husband and son took care of me for the months following. It was tough, but if I didn't have that much help.....I probably could have done more myself.
- To be honest....I can't imagine needing to have this surgery with a toddler...but again...if I had to then I would. I'm fortunate my son is a teenager and other than the complaining (lol) he was a ton of help.
I'm not sure if my surgery is considered a success because one of hte implants didn't work and I'm now in need of a replacement anyway. However, I have also read where many people have great success and are able to put off a replacement for many years!!
I hope you're doing well.....curious if you've had the surgery already or are still thinking about it?
